(2)Road Congestion and Traveling Speed
The road in the target section is approximately 2 km long and possesses four lanes. The standard traffic capacity and number of running cars (sought as the remainder not changing over to using the LRT) can be used to define the degree of congestion, the traveling speed and, consequently, the delay time caused by the congestion. The road congestion-traveling speed curve is demonstrated by the bent curve in the diagram.
(3)Estimation of the LRT Changeover Rate
By superimposing the above-mentioned capacity curve and changeover rate curve to seek the balance between supply and demand, it is thought that the changeover rate will work out to around 24%.
(4)Estimation of the Number of LRT Users
1)Design Standard Transport Volume
The total number of LRT users per day is obtained by adding the previous users of mass transport (buses) to the car drivers who change over to using the LRT (assuming the weekend base).
LRT users = 7,570 + 83,130 x 0.24 = 27,500 people/day (one way)
2)Daily and Seasonal Fluctuations
The numbers of people visiting the Waterfront on weekdays and holidays were indicated in 5.2.3. (2). From these figures, the number of people using the LRT can be calculated as follows.
Weekday base: 19,300 people/day (one way)
Holiday base: 37,700 people/day (one way)
